Note: It has been awhile since I've done anything Gotham Knights related but I felt inspired by doing this story so here ya go. Timeline wise this takes place about a month since Death Is Only The Beginning. I consider it the start of an alternate DC continuity I'd like to call Gotham Knights. Which answers a rather what if question I had in my head, what if Batman died? Not only die but stayed dead.
Within this universe I'm cherry picking some of the other aspects of DC canon like the comics, the shows, animated shows, and movies. With this one, given the title, you'll see some share of Batman: The Animated Series shout outs.

Gotham City Harvey BullockThe cold sharp winds hit Bullock's face the moment he lit a sig. As a harsh reminder to the metaphor that the seasoned detective always give it. The city is just about as cold as it's old beating heart. Waiting on the rooftop his mind reflects back on the recent events. Part of him would be happy of the fact that the city has gotten less noisy following The Joker's death. In his lifetime Harvey has dealt with many criminals and their level of monstrosity but The Joker is perhaps the one kind of scum in which he believed Gotham has gotten a lot brighter ever since he left. Unfortunately he has known this city and it's freaks long enough to notice that just because things are quiet doesn't mean it's peaceful. "You think he'll show up this time?" His partner Detective Timothy Drake asked him as he searches the city for any signs of The Dark Knight's arrival. "He's much like this city, kiddo. Unpredictable and will hit you when you least expect it. Stick with me long enough and you'll eventually get your chance. I do request that you keep your fanboying to a minimum" "I wasn't fanboying" Tim countered but Bullock only scoffed in response. Tim was an orphan who grew up in Gotham and if you're in his situation the city will make damn sure that you grow up pretty quick. Harvey's not surprised of the kid's admiration. He'd bet that The Bat was his only reason for not letting this wretched hive bring him down like many unfortunate souls who live here. And he's of the small few orphaned souls who took a more righteous path. That fact he respects the kid enough for.

A shadow fell over the two from behind and they turned around to face the shadowy figure standing in the spotlight. The police officers shielded their eyes as the light of the BatSignal faded to a dull glow and they were able to get a good look at the hero in blue body armor standing in front of it. Nightwing had finally arrived. "Sorry for the wait, guys. It's been awhile since I've made a sufficiently dramatic entrance." He joked. His voice was filtered out by his helmet but just from his body language and cocky swagger alone it was obvious this was the same kid who'd originally worked alongside Batman as the first Robin. Nightwing.

Nightwing
"As usual you get points for timely." Bullock noted. His expression has gradually been less antagonistic throughout the years. Bullock would still consider Batman and his 'Cult of Freaks' in the same category as the other weirdos but he's starting to notice that they're more reliable to get things done than most of the officer's in his department. Nightwing would describe their relationship as from Teeth-Grinding Teamwork to Cautiously Optimistic Teamwork. He still isn't betting on the conversation being as casual as it used to be with Jim as Bullock has a more 'lets get down to business' demeanor. But his approach has been professional so Nightwing will give the old timer points for that.
"Before we get this meeting underway, here's my partner Detective Tim Drake. You might like him, he's a biiiig Fanboy of your boss" Bullock motioned to his partner.

We've been following your career closely and you're a credit to the force. I mean, drop kicking Amygdala off a ledge and on top of The Hatter? We were laughing over that one for days." Tim laughed. "Oh that was a good day. I still have the pictures. I'm looking forward to continuing to work alongside you, Nightwing."
