It's been awhile since I've done a review so I thought I'd do something interesting by talking about The Simpsons. Especially as I've been re-watching a few Simpsons episodes as of late. The one episode I'd want to talk about is a Marge centered episode called Large Marge. Or The Episode Where Marge Simpson Had Breast Implants.
To me the only thing that came out of that episode is that it certainly spawned its share of Rule 34 art. As an episode in general there was nothing special about it. The only joke was the commentary about Marge's Gazongas. Which was cute at first but ended up being grating later.
The episode did nothing for the character and I felt that Marge came off as a side character and that was supposed to be centered on her. Also the episode was a textbook case of unnecessary makeover as I thought Marge was attractive even without the breast implants. And the episode felt like a joke that overstayed its welcome. I never thought I'd say this but Family Guy pulled this joke better.
Set up with a pay off. Short and to the point.
So I don't consider this the worst episode the Simpsons has but its not the best. It's just there.

It's just there. Much like all Simpsons episodes these days. But yeah, of the Marge episodes I can remember, I think the one where she became a Cop was way better handled. Really gave her something to do in that one. The Breast Expansion is funny as a quick gag but not an episode long one. To its little credit, FG indeed did that much better.

How I'd handle this episode I'd use the breast expansion as a set up to a pay off. Not as a joke but for Marge's character in general. In the beginning of the episode Marge would come to wonder about her looks. In her mind she doesn't consider herself attractive. Through comedic shenanigans she ends up with breast implants. At first she's thrilled till she ends up receiving her share of unwanted attention. Even her kids has a hard time in school due to frequent cracks about their mom's Gazongas. Marge gradually starts to see her new goods as a hinderance than a blessing. She has a chat with Homer about it and Homer made a comment on how he finds her attractive without the implants. In his own way of saying. So she undo the implants and is back to being Classic Marge but regains a newfound confidence. She likes the classic her and so does her family and that's all it matters.

Kudos on bringing back the Classic Goofball Homer who genuinely loves his family rather than the Drooling Jerkass Homer. Always nice to see a look back at the loveable oaf who's played for laughs that you can understand Marge falling love with. Plus, I think this sends a good message about body positivity. Be happy with who you are. You don't need surgical grafts to make you beautiful unless you want to have them. If that makes sense.

Homer: "Hmm. What you're saying reminds me of something!" He goes to the kitchen and returns with a donut in hand. [insert the most delicious donut you can imagine here] Homer: "You know Marge. I've eaten a lot of donuts in my life. Then one day I just so happen to come across this. There's something about it that sets itself apart from the rest. So when I tried it I just know that this will be with me for the rest of my life. Now you can strip some of the bits away or change a few things about it but it'll only take away what made it special to begin with" He breaks off a piece of the donut and hands it to Marge. Marge smiled in understanding of Homer's quirky yet to the point metaphor and they quietly enjoy the donut together.

In character and exactly the kind of metaphor he would use! Btw, am I the only one who just thought of The Soul Doughnut?

*Cue Post-Credit Scene!* Within The Flanders Household Ned Flanders is having Pizza Night with his sons. He sensed something, he excused himself and walks over to the kitchen window and stares out at the Simpsons Household. "Heh. Had to do it for a noble cause didn't you?! Ah, I'll let it slide just this once" He looks back at his two son's, who are without a doubt the anti-christ. "Sometimes it pays to be generous. Besides, it's The Simpsons. They'll come back into the fold soon enough. Now enjoy your soul pizza"

Honestly, FlandersSatan setting up shop in Springfield of all places makes complete sense given what an absolute mess that town is. He probably sees it as a vacation home away from Hell. I mean heck, even Reverend Lovejoy seems pretty much burnt out most of the time and he's the closest thing to God's man in that town!
