tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ActionGirl-Chidori is one hell of a fighter, being a natural prodigy of Martial Arts, and it's served her well in her long list of fights. Whether street fighting, cage fighting, or fighting in dojos, she always gives as good as she gets. She's good enough that, so far, her only real loss in a fight has been against older students who are themselves martial arts masters. She's even good enough to defeat Suko Chifumi, a much older woman who was herself an experienced killer and martial artist, after a close fight. It's going to serve her well in her superhero career. tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MadeOfIron-Chidori took a prolonged beating from the first monster of the day in the series, itself a superhuman being, without her powers, and survived. She was getting demolished, sure, but the sheer beating she took was just downright insane. THEN she was trapped in a Suffering Sphere, basically the Agony Matrix from DCAU except you're trapped in a Pocket Dimension that also won't let you die, and has to endure horrific torture of all of her pain receptors going into overdrive. THEN she takes the pain away from all of the other people who'd been trapped like her, which is a considerable number, and has to endure all of that on top of her already extensive injuries. Her response? She gets even more pissed off and punches her way out of a freaking pocket dimension and then sends the monster flying while scorching it inside and out with a fire punch. Hardcore. This also wrecks and burns her arm and only after all of that does she pass out. Fortunately, Izzy and Guardian arrive to save her and she is healed, saving her life. tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KnightInSourArmor-Chidori has had a rough life to put it lightly. Her father was abusive to her and her mom, her mom killed her father to save her and had a mental breakdown afterword, her aunt and uncle were neglectful and abusive, her other aunt was a lunatic who dabbled in magical forces she didn't remotely understand and did god knows what to her (At the very least, it involved some kind of ritual in a dark basement and magical sigils that resulted in a release of power that blew up their house!) and traumatized her further, she hasn't had any real contact with her extended family, she was in and out of orphanages and families, has had to deal with bullying in the past for any number of the above reasons, finally found a family who accepts her, found some decent stability, found herself a job at a restaurant with a friendship with an older woman who Chidori later discovered was a serial killer and Chidori had to defeat her, then one of her best friends was put in a coma after fighting another serial killer! All of this was pre-series btw. Despite all of this madness, Chidori doesn't give into the cynicism of her life and still does her best to see light in the world. She's cynical, sure, and she has some unhealthy coping mechanisms, and has a real foul mouth on her, she STILL tries to be good and help others and be there for her friends.

Definitely! As detailed up above, Chidori has basically been through hell in her life but instead of using it as an excuse to be a villain she flips the script and uses it to inspire herself to be a better person who looks after and protects the innocent. It's one of the things that seperates her from Suko. Suko had a perfectly normal life and chose to become a serial killer anyway. It's an important lesson really. Someone who came from a horrible life can rise above it to become a better person and someone who had a perfectly normal, even great, life can become a monster. She's pretty tall by Japanese standards but yeah she isn't quite as big as them. Fire Imp FTW! Hiro is everyone's cool big sis. They might have contrasting personalities but Chidori and Toki definitely care about each other. Yeah, she can be like that with people but despite Malty going to a different school there is a sense of respect between them. Can you blame her? Brilliant But Lazy! Yeah, Chi-Bird's offense focused personality and style didn't really gell all the well with the Diva's In Defense school, being they're focused around defense, so she had to leave. It's another one of the things that differentiates her from Toki. I wasn't sure if that was official but I can see them getting along very well. Their personalities are so in synch and Ava does know a lot more about magic than she does.

tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DeconstructedTrope-The aftermath of Chidori's battle showcases a rather somber moment that you'd rarely see from superhero fiction. In works like Power Rangers a monster attack would happen, the heroes fight the monster, defeats it, and usually go about their day as usual afterwards. In here we see that the heroes are still reeling from the battle and maintain a variety of responses when it comes to what they've just witnessed: **Hiro had spent the bulk of the day in an emotional whirlwind in trying to find a more logical explanation as to what she just witnessed. She's used to criminals and super villains but this is a new scenario for her. Despite that she won that battle left her pretty rattled. It was her pep talk from her younger siblings that helped her gradually get back into the swing of things. **As good of a fighter Toki is we are seeing the harsh reality in which she's still a normal teenage girl. And through the eyes of a normal teenage girl the things she just witnessed was pretty intense. tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome-Toki is a good fighter and is by no means a cowered but she lacks the superhero experience that Hiro and Chidori has and lacks powers or a power suit to aid her so she does what any normal person would do during a monster attack, she hid for cover.

It helps that this opening monster attack was considerably more dangerous than the average Power Rangers opening attack. Not counting the daily Kaiju Attacks. I'm just saying. Power Rangers usually have to wait a while before they get nearly as dark as the Suffering Spheres. Unless it's RPM. Then you start at 11 and keep going up. Honestly you cannot blame either of them for their reactions. By comparing Toki's smoothie drink with Chidori's drinking you could even say that the smoothie was something of a comfort food/drink for her. If anything it shows just how important it is to have support groups you can talk to in the aftermath of a disaster like that. It is a very heartwarming scene though to have Hiro's siblings comforting her and supporting her after the disaster. It's also for that very reason that Toki prevented Takako and the others from running after Chidori during the fight. Because, being honest, they would've just died. Hence them putting their heads together and thinking around the problem instead of running right at it. Moving onward with the realistic scenarios! Chidori's initial fight with the monster. She's beyond pissed off and pumped full of adrenaline but she doesn't have her powers yet. So naturally Chidori gets her ass kicked all over the place. She puts up a good effort and keeps going after insane damage but until she manages to activate her power and give it a good hard hit she was helpless against it.

It honestly brings Hiro having a better showing in her fight with the monster in a more Fridge Brilliance light. It helps that Hiro has had more superhero experience so she knows when to keep a level head about her when everything was going chaos around her.
Honestly, if it weren't for Izzy and Ava's aid who knows how that fight would've turned out. Granted the both of them have had experience in dealing with monsters and otherworldly threats.

Having super powers and a super suit to boot helped a lot of course. I imagine Hiro would've ultimately won but it would've taken longer and she likely would've taken some hits of her own. She should be able to handle it well enough so long as she didn't get caught in a Suffering Sphere though.
