Rivington Falls. 2035. Night.
A police car comes screeching down the hill, a knight in his white charger, black tires squealing on the grey as he skids to block the street. As the siren broke through even the noise of the radio in his car, he checked the rearview mirror. The cars behind the car were pulling over already. " Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me. Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ in quiet, Christ in danger, Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger. I bind unto myself the Name, The strong Name of the Trinity; By invocation of the same. The Three in One, and One in Three, Of Whom all nature hath creation, Eternal Father, Spirit, Word: Praise to the Lord of my salvation, Salvation is of Christ the Lord. Amen." Cayson Rivera prayed quietly and signed himself. "You good?" Cameron Roberts asked his partner without taking his eyes off of the road. "Yeah, yeah I'm good. But, you know, it doesn't hurt to have the Lord in your corner. You never know when a Vampire or some other monster is going to come to the city and divine protection could be the difference between life and death." "Cayson, buddy, I have all of the respect towards you and your faith, but what the heck would a vampire be going in Rivington? Do we look like Shepard to you? We're not even a Serenity! This is Rivington. Nothing happens here." "Something's clearly happening tonight and that's why we want the Lord on our side. This could be the craziest night of our lives. We're driving right to a PowersFight remember?" "I am aware." "Do we have a plan?" "We're in luck. It didn't sound like it was anything powerful. Probably just a couple of drunks. The reports listed a Blaster, a Tentac, a Volt and a Reflux. If we can't get them to surrender quietly then we taze them, rubber bullets, gas, you know the drill. Drop them and bring them in by the book. More than anything though, we can't use any tazers against the Volt. Electro's are dangerous enough without being charged up." "Right. Rubber bullets only on the Volt. Okay. Yeah. Lets do this. Hopefully we can get them to surrender quietly first." "That's the ideal." Cayson offered his fist. "Bad boys of the bible?" "Bad boys of the bible. Cray-Cray for life." They fist bumped and continued to the scene of the altercation. Marine Boulevard. Wishmaster Square. Nobles District.
What is normally one of the most beautiful plazas in Rivington where people can congregate during the day to relax in peace and quiet and enjoy each other's company on benches or under the beautiful trees while flanked tall beautiful buildings on all sides had been turned into a battlefield. A tree had been thrown halfway across the plaza. The ground was scorched and cracked. The middle of the fountain was broken. Acid had melted holes on the sidewalk, the plaza tiles and some benches. There were holes in the ground. Some of the plants had been destroyed. Street lights had been knocked over. The two officers arrived on the scene to be greeted by all of this chaos and four men laying in the middle of the plaza groaning in pain. "What the heck?" Cayson asked. "Did they do all of this?" "It...certainly looks like it. They match the descriptions at least." Cameron replied as they surveyed the area. Energy Blasts, Tentacles. Electricity. Acid Spit. The destruction in the area certainly fit with the descriptions of the powers used here. But was this really them? And in that case who could have done this to them? The officers approached the men cautiously. The men were covered in scrapes and bruises like they'd just been in a fight but nothing fatal thankfully. "RFPD! We're here to help. Are you okay? Do you need medical assistance?" Three of the men were stuck groaning in pain but one of them managed to speak up. He raised a trembling arm to the sky and winced as he opened and closed his hand and tried to do something with it nothing happened. "G-g-give....give it...give....back." He forced out. "Sir! Sir are you okay?" "Give...give it back." "Give it back? Sir, give what back? What happened here?" "Give...it back. G-give it back." "Sir?" "Give....give me..." The man trembled and tears began welling up in his eyes. "GIVE ME BACK MY POWERS!" He screamed to the sky.

"Listen to me Penny! Listen to me! I know this is hard but this is what's best for you. Now listen to me very closely. Whatever you hear on the news, whatever they tell you, whatever you hear from the police, remember that we loved you very much and we are doing all of this for you."
"We have to go. I'm sorry my child but this has to happen."
"MOM! MOM WAIT! WAIT! WHAT'D I DO WRONG?! MOMMY DADDY PLEASE! PLEASE COME BACK! WHATEVER I DID! I'M SORRY!"
"Forgive us, Penny. But this will just be easier on you."
"Come along now. She'll be okay here. They won't look for her out here."
The men gently held me in place while I screamed for them to come back in vain. "MOMMY! DADDY! PLEASE COME BACK! PLEASE COME BACK! I'M SORRY! DADDY! DADDY DON'T GO! WHAT'D I DO WRONG? WHAT DID I DO? I'M SORRY! I'M SORRY PLEASE COME BACK! COME BACK I LOVE YOU! COME BAAAAACk!"
But they didn't come back for me. They walked out of the door and drove away to God knows where while I was stuck in the orphanage bawling my eyes out. I didn't understand why they didn't want me. I didn't understand what I did wrong. I didn't understand why I was left at the orphanage. I didn't understand why they fought the world. I didn't understand why my father commanded an army of bad guys. I didn't understand why he got into that fight with Serenity that traversed the country. I didn't understand why it ended in Ironfrot. I didn't understand why my father wounded Serenity. I didn't understand why Serenity killed him either. I don't know what happened to my mother. I don't know why my parents left me alone. I don't know why none of my parents business associates ever came to find me. I don't know.
What I do know is that my father was supposed to have been the most evil man in the world. At least that's what everyone else says about him. I only knew him as my father really.
Now he's dead and gone and demonized. Schools teach about all of the evil things he did in classes. There are documentaries about his evil deeds. Movies. TV Shows. Online Shows. Entire Novels. Fake True Stories.
Meanwhile, Serenity has an entire city named after her with a statue and a monument in the middle of it. With everyone cheering her praises to this day and I can kinda get it? I mean, I guess she saved the world right?
But it still doesn't explain why my parents did any of that though neither does any of the documentaries.
I don't understand why he did any of it.
But now he's gone and my biological mother, if she isn't dead too, dropped off of the face of the Earth.
It's not that bad though. I got a lucky break. I was adopted by Miss Stone and all things considered I'm living a good life in Rivington Falls. Not to be confused with the other Rivington. I'm not sure how the name was adopted here in the United Republic but I guess that's not too important.
I've changed my surname to Stone and I'm definitely sticking with that.
It's not like I can go around using my real surname. I got enough flack for that thank you very much!
Oh, who am I?
You sure you wanna know?
Alright. I'll tell you.
My Name Is Penelope Donovan Killmaster Stone. Well, just Penelope D. Stone right now.
I Am The Daughter Of The Dark Lord Equilibrium.
This Is My Story.

Rivington Falls Academy School For Advanced Learning. A big fancy school for talented young students! The best students in Rivington are selected from the schools and offered a chance to join the Academy. If you can make it through the downright insane exams, some of which were on the Incomprehensible Secret Test Of Character side of things, you were golden! The Academy was comprised of multiple buildings and towers located on a small island just off of the city and connected by a long bridge. The Academy's curriculum consisted of advanced courses, College and University Level, along with physical fitness and wilderness survival training. The Talented Students were kept exceptionally busy keeping up with all of it but damn if it wouldn't look good on their records. Besides, they knew what they were getting into when they signed up and sat down for those Ultra Nightmare Mode Entrance Exams. But every now and then they got a nice little breather to have some fun. Which is where I am now. "Are you kidding me right now?!" Skyla Wright demanded as she stared at the Joker card in her hand. "There's no way! You're cheating somehow! You have to be!" She accused me. Skyla is a beautiful, young girl with blonde hair that is usually tied up at the left side of her head with a blue scrunchie and blue-eyes. Au contraire de ce que tu prétends, cela n’est pas le cas." I replied to her with a cocky smile. "This is a simple game of chance." I placed my red and black cards down and tapped them. "I explained to you quite clearly how this game works, didn't I? There are four suits in a deck of cards: Diamonds, Hearts, Spades and Clubs. Hearts and Diamonds are Red, Spades and Clubs are Black. Normally, if you draw two cards, there will be four possibilities: Black and Black, Red and Black, Black and Red, and finally Red and Red. The chances of drawing two aces of the same color from the four aces might seem 50-50 at first, but people are fooled by drawing two cards at a time. By drawing only one card at a time, after you draw one, whether its red or black, there would be three cards left face down, and only one card of the three is the same color. Thus, the real odds would be one out of three." I explained clearly. I tapped the Joker card. "That's why I added him in. See? We take turns drawing from the five cards right? And whoever collects two of the same color wins. Exceeeept! If you draw the Joker, you lose! If we both collect one of each, it's a tie! There's no way to win unless one of us draws the Joker. If the Joker is left at the end, the game has to be a tie. The chances of drawing the Joker card out of five set cards is always one out of five." I ran my hair through my brown hair that I kept in a shoulder length bobbed cut curved inwards at the ends with two longer clumps taking the same shape on either side of my face with short bangs that reach roughly a quarter of the way down my forehead as I leaned back and relaxed as she processed this and sat down. She placed the cards back on the table. "So you really aren't cheating huh? You're just lucky?" “We are all a great deal luckier that we realize, we usually get what we want – or near enough." "Roald Dahl. Alright, fine, one more time! But! I want my homegirl to shuffle this time." One of her friends walked up to the desk and gathered up the cards. I made a little bit of conversation while keeping an eye on the joker card. "So how's your interview project coming along?" "Going great actually! It took some time but I've managed to score a virtual video chat with The Princess!" "No way! Carmella herself? How'd you pull that off?" I exclaimed in amazement. "Took a lot of phone calls. My family's rich remember?" "Sure rub it in." I stuck out my tongue. "So anyway, my father called a guy who called a guy who knew a guy who was roomates with a guy who knew another guy and that's how I got the interview." Skyla summarized as her friend placed the cards down. "That's impressive. My hats off to you good madam." I told her and took a card. Then Skyla took a card. "So who are you trying to interview?" "Davina Deandra from Shepard. We're scheduled for a VR Interview tomorrow." I explained and took a card. "Cool. Of course, she's not as cool as interviewing literal royalty, but I suppose you could do worse." Then Skyla took her second card. "Alright. Three. Two. One. Showdown." We both revealed our cards. Two Reds for me. One black and one Joker for her. "What is with my luck today?" "Good luck and bad luck come and go in waves! Wanna try it again?" "Ugggh no thanks! Five losses in a row is enough for me." "Understandable. However, there is the matter of your payment." "Yeah, yeah, I know." She took out $50.00 and placed it on the desk. "There. $10.00 for each game. You win. Just know that I will not forget this. I am going to get you back for this one day, Penelope." "Best of luck to you, Skyla." We shook on it and I took the money and put the cards back in the card holder. Today was going to be a very good day.

We shook on it and I took the money and put the cards back in the card holder. Today was going to be a very good day. I meant what I said FYI. The game was completely fair. There's a one out of five chance of drawing the Joker card. Unless of course you know how to shuffle and lay the cards properly. Remember where you place them, know where they are in the cards while you're shuffling them and keep in mind where you're placing it among the other four cards. Then you can have your pick of the other four cards while waiting for your opponent to goof up. When the next game comes around, simply place the Joker Card in a different spot you've already selected and continuing the game, making your opponent think they can win while they're dangling on the end of your string. It's a bit dishonest but in my defense, $50.00 isn't going to hurt Skyla at all anyway. She is rich. Super rich. Loaded even! $50.00 isn't even a drop in the bucket for her. I wouldn't be surprised if her parents casually light that up with a cigar. Granted, an experienced Gambler would see it coming a mile away, but I wouldn't try this game on them anyway. This is parlor tricks. Carnie tricks. Playtime. It's all in good harmless fun. After all, Con men leave their marks angry. Con artists leave them smiling. I put my cards away and grabbed my bag. "Alright folks if there are no other takers, I'm heading to the library for schoolwork purposes. Would anyone care to join me?" "Ohhhh no! You ain't getting off the hook that easily Penelope!" Ruby Weiss scolded as she flipped over a row of the desks and landed in front of me. Ruby was an athlete and one of the best gymnasts in the school so this wasn't unusual for her. She wasn't as tall as the other girls but every ounce of her body was either dense bone or sinewy muscle and she was as lithe as an Olympic Gymnast. The two of us are the same height, 5'2, but you wouldn't have to look too hard between the two of us to figure out who was the superior athlete. "Hey hey! Ruby! Rubster! Rubowski! How are you this fine day?" "Oh I'll be just dandy after I win back my homegirl's money!" The auburn haired freckle faced pigtailed gymnast grinned. "Oh really? Well look as much as I would love to stay and play, I do have schoolwork to do. So I'll tell you what. We'll play a quick guessing game." I set my bookbag down and took a coin out of a pocket and I showed her the back and the front of it before flipping it and catching it in the air. "I'll rub my hands together and move them all around and then you'll have to guess which hand the coin is in. If you get it right, I'll stay here and we can play your choice of game until you win the money back for Skyla. If I win, I leave to the library to continue furthering my education. Sound fair?" "Deal." "Rubes, You don't have to-" "Oh don't you worry Skyla. It's a 50-50 chance and I'm feeling lucky. Game on Penelope!" "Game on." I opened my hand to show her the coin in it and then I slapped my other hand over it and I began rubbing my hands back and forth and moving them all around while slipping another coin out of my sleeve out of my school uniform into one of my palms. Then I simply kept them both closed just enough that I could slip them away if necessary. I held my hands up. "Alright. Lets begin. You get one guess and it's 50-50. So which is it? Right or left?" I challenged. She crossed her arms and looked at my hands. Left or right. Right or left. Which one? Which one could it be? It was a simple 50-50 chance. I watched the gears turn in her head as she studied my hands and replayed my show and dance from before over and over in her head until she smiled. "Got it." "Alright. Which one?" "That's easy. It's your right hand." "This hand?" I raised my right hand up with the back of my hand facing her. "Are you sure? You get one guess." "Oh yeah. I'm sure. Right. Final answer. Now show me your hand." I slipped the coin down my sleeve and let it fall as I lowered my hand and opened it up to reveal an empty hand. "Sorry! It was my left!" I opened my left hand to reveal an identical coin in it. "Whaaaat? But, there's no way! I'm positive it was your right hand!" I flipped the coin to her. "Take a look. Is this not the coin I showed you earlier?" She looked it over and over before sighing and flipping the coin back to me while my right hand went into my pocket. I caught the coin and slipped it into my pocket. With both coins back in my pockets, I was all good now. As I was taking my hand back out I also took my phone out of my right pocket and turned it on to check the time. I smiled and nodded. "Alright then. I'm heading out to the library. Skyla, I'll give you the chance to win your money back next time!" "Ah don't worry about it. I'll get you back on my own time." "Game on girl." I waved and walked to the door. "Wait a second." "Yeah?" "Penny...would you mind rolling up your sleeves for a second?" I shrugged. "Whatever makes you happy." I grabbed the sleeves of my school uniform and rolled up my right one first and then the left one. "Huh. Alright. Never mind." Ruby scratched the back of her head in confusion and I walked out while rolling my sleeves down. Once I was out the sight of the others, I slipped the coin from my right pocket into my backpack and zipped the pocket back up. Judge me if you wish but I really do have schoolwork that I need to take care of. Besides, I don't have Super Powers. Whether I eventually develop them or not, I've had to develop my wits to get ahead in the world. I still did a little jig as I walked to the staircase though. CHAPTER 1: PENELOPE THE CON ARTIST.

I arrived at the library and swiftly ascended to the computer lab where I logged on with my username and password Regina Immediatus Prestigia. It was essentially Latin for Queen of Ultimate Deception. It just felt right for an artist like Moi. I got into the computer and on the internet and got one of my word files from my E-Mail and got to work on it. I threw my all into it. Crafting a beautiful passionate essay that had the appearance of an amazing work of heart that makes a teacher tell that you had poured your heart and soul into it after weeks of sweat and tears desperately crafting the ultimate essay chasing after that ever elusive A+ Grade. Well, it certainly appeared that way didn't it? I skimmed the Wikipedia entries on the way to the library on my phone, checked their sources, memorized those and checked a few other sources, memorized those and finally I skimmed some online notes last night. Now here I sat as I pooled all of that gathered knowledge into the essay into my own words. This was meant to be a 10 page long monster that would take . I knocked it out in the first round. It's not that hard. Just take the information you find and expand on it. It's really quite simple. I looked over the essay again after I finished it. It was sealed air tight and golden. I saved it and E-Mailed a copy to myself and then I printed it out. With this out of the way, I was free to get started on my other assignments. I was about to log out of the E-Mail when I noticed a message. From Davina Deandra. I immediately clicked on it. I immediately sent her a response. g I sent the message and waited with baited breath for about two minutes. Just when I was beginning to think I'd been to hasty she replied! I closed down the browser and logged out of the computer and rushed into a private room, slid to a stop, grabbed a computer, logged in, got all set up and logged into the chat system while adjusting the headset. Once everything was ready I clicked start and I was immediately pulled into a glowing computer tunnel before suddenly finding myself into a new room that looked like it was somewhere inside of a Mansion and there she was. Sitting right in front of me. With a fancy blue suit and extensively long coral brown hair that she keeps in a high ponytail tied back with a large white bow, curled slightly at the ends along with two prominent strands of hair beside her bangs that reaches slightly past her ample chest. Her eyes are emerald green. She had the feel of an experienced and confident businesswoman looking over me like I was a puzzle to be solved. I smiled and offered my hand. "Davina Deandra?" "That's me. Hello, Penelope Stone. It's a pleasure to meet you."

It felt like a surge of energy between our hands until we parted. I looked at my hand in confusion. Was there just a glitch in the system? "Nice handshake, Penelope." She smiled. "Shall we begin?" "Oh, yeah, sure." I composed myself and we began the interview. "Well, alright, I suppose we'll get the obvious question out of the way first. Is Shepard really as weird as everyone says?" She laughed like she heard an old joke she still considered funny. "Yes. I suppose it could be considered weird if you aren't used to it. We did fight a Demon recently." "Woah! A real demon? As in from Hell itself? What?" "That is correct. We used to have a Pastor living in our town by the name of Laurens-Jan Groot Schimmelpennink. He was a nice guy but unfortunately it turned out he was also a devil worshipper and he summoned a Demon Lord named Bazgbaurarnazgorothathugug to Earth." "I...uhm...can you please spell that out?" "Certainly. B. A. Z. G. B. A. U. R. A. R. N. A. Z. G. O. R. O. T. H. A. T. H. U. G. U. G." She spelled out the name as the letters appeared in front of her in the form of glowing letters. I memorized them before continuing. "Alright. So how did you deal with that? It sounds like a real nightmare." "Oh it was but fortunately it was a short nightmare. Long story short? We swarmed it. Everyone in Shepard put aside their differences, and there aren't that many anyway, we're all friends there, to hit it together with everything we had. We even brought in some help. An Occult Investigator from Castle City named Violet. Her help was invaluable. Finally with the help of an Occult Expert by the name of Doctor Sebastian Craft we were able to seal what was left of the demon back into Hell with his summoner." "Okay, wait, back up, you really sent him down to Hell with the demon?" "In all honesty Penelope, he was headed there anyway." She shrugged. "If you summon a demon to Earth with the full intent on letting it rampage and cause mass destruction? You aren't getting into Heaven after that. You're going straight to Hell when you die. We might as well give Death a break and let Karma handle it." "I see...huh. That makes sense. That is certainly one Hell of a way to start of an interview." I joked. "Indeed. Forgive me if I scared you but it was a rather exciting time in our town's history. After some major cleansing, construction and a few legal dabbling the Church was rebuilt as a place of business for one of our town heroes. A very nice woman named Cody King." "Wow that's cool! Was she involved in the big fight too?" "Penny, she was on the front lines. Lets just say she had her own bag of tricks that made her invaluable to the efforts." "Oh man she sounds super cool! Is Miss King the Queen of Shepard then?" "HA HA! Hitting the puns early today are we?" Davina laughed. "Oh she's certainly cool but she's not quite that good. If there's a Queen of our town my dear, it's me."

So if you don't mind me asking, what exactly are your powers then?" "Hmm? Well, it's a bit complex, but for simplicities sake, I call it Patho-Ergokinesis." "Patho-Ergokinesis? I've never heard of that." "It's fabulously rare and yet everyone can tap into it. Allow me to summarize. The Emotional Electromagnetic Spectrum is an energy field that is fueled by the emotions of all sentient beings. The Emotional Spectrum was created early on when sentient life first appeared in the universe and its thoughts and feelings became powerful enough to coalesce into in a whole band of energy. You see it all the time. For example, you ever watch a cartoon or an anime where the main character is getting the daylights beaten out of them until the villain royally ticks them off and they get a huge swell of power? Or someone finds an epiphany that swells them up with joy and restores their energy? Or the powers of love and friendship?" "Yeah?" I asked nodding along. "That's the EES. That's basically what happens when someone taps into their inner selves and gets a huge swell of emotion that gives them a brief surge of energy. They are tapping into the boundless energy of the Emotional Spectrum. Everyone can tap into it to some degree but only for the briefest of moments. Empaths have an easier time doing so it and it is theorized that their powers are fueled by the EES the same way it fuels all emotion in all living things. That's where I come in. I can tap into it deliberately." Davina explained. "I can create, shape and manipulate the energy that is created and generated by the emotions of all living things in existence capable of feeling them. I are able to increase, decrease or change it, manifest the emotional energy to physical level, and convert emotional energy into another form of energy." She gave me a minute to let that sink before she continued. "It was quite invaluable when we fought the demon. Being able to functionally eat people's fears in a fight like that can be a lifesaver." My head was swimming. Emotional Energy? I guess it's not entirely impossible but could this girl really tap into that kind of power? Converting, shaping, manipulating, changing it...eating it? Absorbing it? She could Absorb Energy like that then....could she be like my father?!

Your power sounds absolutely incredible though. You mentioned a sister, right? Does she have the same power?" "Yes. Deeanna. She's approximately as powerful as I am and it would be hard to tell us apart. Especially because we're twins though I'm the older of us." "I see, I see. So what you do in Shepard, your Highness?" "We're the President and Vice President respectively of the Shepard High School Student Council. It is our job to assist the police and our local hero, who has chosen to remain anonymous for right now, with keeping the peace in our town and the surrounding area while ensuring the continued prosperity of Shepard and the increasing education, prosperity and growth of our students." She summarized. "Woah. You guys really do all of that? Aren't you guys a little young to have that much power? How does a Student Council have that kind of reach?" "Think of us as being more like an independent political government. Each student government possesses decision-making powers that outrank those of the board of directors, the PTA, and the faculty. It's a democracy of youth." "And people are just okay with this?" "We have Shepard's best interests at heart and we have provided them with protection, health and happiness, so yes. The whole situation is a bit complex but we are among the great powers of Shepard. It's a big balancing act." "That...how does that work?" "Town Politics. Don't worry about it." "Okay, so, how do you afford that on a High School Kid's Salary?" "Oh that's the fun part. It all comes back to a Summer Vacation to The Dhaessaenthaen Isle where we uncovered the long lost Temple Of Gatia. We had a TIME getting in there! Even with our abilities it was...certainly a task. That place was capital F Fortified! Even when we got inside, wow., that place was every temple video game puzzle death trap in the book. All that to find our way to a sealed set of six doors. We were able to figure out how to open the first five relatively easily but the sixth one...hoo boy...that one was protected by some real magic. In the end we managed to break through it and locked away the curse and we were free to help ourselves to the treasures within." "Dhaessaenthaen? Gatia? I'm sorry, I've never heard of either of those." "Dhaessaenthaen. D.H.A.E.S.S.A.E.N.T.H.A.E.N. I can you E-Mail the history but long story short it was an ancient society that worshipped a God named Gatia. A God Of Fortune and Virtues. Due to a cataclysmic event in the past, their civilization was lost but their temple still stood even after all these years. We simply retrieved the treasures and sold them to The Royal Center Of Fantastic History and kept the rest of the wealth for ourselves. Even that was worth loads. Rest assured, Penelope, we're sitting pretty on our fortune." My head was swimming. I felt dizzy trying to get all this. Diviana Deandra was unreal. She was completely unreal! Here I am sitting in a school computer lab with this super rich goddess who had not only accomplished so much in life but was so powerful she could potentially be on the same level as my father but they were treated like a freaking Government Power in a town like Shepard! God, what the hell am I doing with my life? "But I've rambled on about myself long enough and you're probably getting bored. How about you, Penelope? Tell me about yourself. What's your power?" "Errr....about that...I uhhhhh...I-I'm sorry it'll kick in any day now." "That's the spirit. You are about that age after all. So? What are you hoping for?" "Hmmmm, that's a tough one, I've never been able to settle on what kind of power I'd want. I've always found myself switching between the different powers. There's just so many to choose from. It might sound childish but I wanted all of them." I laughed awkwardly. "Still, if I had to choose ONE...I think it would be Flight. Flight or Telekinesis." The Telekinetic Mutation is a neurological mutation that occurs more infrequently than the Telepathic Mutation, and has fewer specializations. The Telekinetic Mutation develops in the primary motor cortex, specifically the basal ganglia. The will power that one normally uses to control oneself can be channeled through this mutation as an energy source, moving physical objects by willpower alone. Telekinesis (also called Psychokinesis) is the ability to apply force with the mind. The telekinetic visualizes an object moving, and wills it to move as such. The telekinetic may or may not supplement the mental imagery with hand gestures. The potential and level of control determine what the telekinetic can move. Visualization is the key to this ability. Being able to visualize the intended movement is absolutely necessary. As a result, telekinetics have difficulty moving objects they cannot see. With exceptional control, the telekinetic could augment their physical strength, stop bullets, and even fly. Flight is the ability by which one achieves sustained movement through the air by Gyrokinesis. This allows the flier to manipulate their gravitational field, and fly by simply being immune to the effects of gravity. One with this ability is capable of soaring through the skies within the atmosphere, at a height which does not generate too much air pressure to humanly survive. Without other abilities to sustain themselves in the cold void of space and without oxygen, travel outside the atmosphere is unattainable. Speeds vary by mutation and training, though, it is possible that one with flight could simply be able to fly at Supersonic (Mach 1) speeds instinctively though beyond that is deemed impossible due to the force it exerts on the human body. "Telekinesis huh? So you're an Ultra Girl, fan?" "Oh man who isn't? Have you seen her on the News? She's amazing! Telekinesis has to be one of the most versatile powers ever! She can do basically anything!" "She really is impressive isn't she? In the Superpower Lottery, Telekinesis is one of the Grand Prizes. Well, don't worry, Penelope, I'm sure your gift will wake up soon and that it will be an amazing one. Call me up when it does. I'll be looking forward to discussing it." "Alright, yeah, sure, like I said, any day now. I'm sure it'll be a cool one. I know it will." I smiled and nodded. I meant every word of course. I am sure that my power, whatever it is, will in fact wake up soon and that it will be a really cool one. Unless of course it's... that. Yeeeeaaaah if it is HIS power I will definitely need to keep that under wraps. Although, if it does turn out to be my Father's Power, then Davina might be the best person to talk to about it. I made a mental note on this just in case. "Righto! Let's get back to our interview!" "Sure! What is your next question, Penny?"

(Whoa-ho-ho! Somebody's proud of herself! Isn't she just a Student Council President?) "I seeeee. If she could Absorb Energy like that then....could she be like my father?! "Is something wrong Penelope?" "Huh? Oh, no, nothing. Really. It's just a lot to take in. Don't worry about it." "Ah, yes, what kind of supernatural creatures and people live around Shepard?" "Oh we've got it all. There's a Centaur on our Student Council for instance! As well as a few others around town. Nymphs, Faeries, Sprites, the occasional Gnome and Goblins, we've got Lycans, Witches, some Minotaurs, we've got it all here." "And everyone lives in peace?" "Of course. There might be the occasional disagreement but it's rarely anything serious. It comes with being a supernatural hotspot due to the ley line crossing. Oh and ley lines are a worldwide source of magic woven around the Earth. Wherever Ley lines intersect in specific ways, they provide and enable magical properties to certain areas and people to greater degrees than normal. Because of this, supernatural beings are more attracted to hot spots like Shepard and they tend to naturally gather in numbers around the area. Since they've been gathering around the town for so long it essentially just grew around them and they've learned to live in peace together with each other and the townspeople." "Woah. You are...blowing my mind here. So these ley lines are all around the world?" "Everywhere and they're particularly strong on this Earth as well hence the more public and common appearances of supernatural beings and events. When the lines intersect with each other at certain locations in juuuust the right way, it results in a supernatural hot spot like I described above. The area will start to radiate a certain energy and supernatural beings and humans who are more inclined towards the supernatural will start to gather in that area over time." "That's cool. So the energy they radiate is like a beacon?" "Basically." "Cool. What exactly do they look like? Can you see them?" "Not with the naked eye unless you're supernaturally inclined. As for what they look like, imagine this. Picture the most beautiful sparkling shimmering shining light you can envision in your mind and now picture it as a series of crisscrossing lines all around you stretching beyond the horizon as far as you can see. That's honestly the best way I can describe them to a newbie." "Woaoh...hey wait a second. I thought you said you were a Super. How can you see them?" She giggled. "My Patho-Ergokinesis is my main trick but it's not my only one, Penelope. It takes more than an awesome super power to keep order in Shepard. I've learned quite a few tricks." Davina winked.

"My Patho-Ergokinesis is my main trick but it's not my only one, Penelope. It takes more than an awesome super power to keep order in Shepard. I've learned quite a few tricks." Davina winked. "Okay, so, what did you mean by this world?" "Well lets get into lecture mode. What do you know about the Multiverse?" "Well lets see. The multiverse is a hypothetical group of multiple universes. Together, these universes comprise everything that exists: the entirety of space, time, matter, energy, information, and the physical laws and constants that describe them. The different universes within the multiverse are called "parallel universes", "other universes", "alternate universes", or "many worlds". Wait, are you telling me that you've visited these other worlds?" "You are correct except that the multiverse is not hypothetical. It's a very real thing. With an infinite amount of space, every possible event will occur an infinite number of times. However, the speed of light and dimensional barriers prevents us from being aware of these other identical areas." "That's right! With every decision, it creates a branch in the timeline which results in a parallel universe! We're having this exact conversation in an infinite number of them with an infinite number of potential differences in it. The multiverse can encompass an infinite number of possible and impossible "moments", some of these linked by tidy and coherent timelines. But there may also be an equal or even greater number of incoherent, looped, knotted, or unconnected timeless moments that remain unchanging for all eternity. Timelines need not progress forward, or even backward, but also what appears to be sideways through disjointed and unrelated frames of reference. The multiverse may have no apparent ultimate purpose or reason for existence, other than it just is." Penelope explained. She clapped in response. "Smart girl! A+! You got it in one! Among the infinite possible universes resulting from our conversation, there is an infinite number of different versions of Shepard! The Shepard in our universe just happens to be one where the Leylines Magical Energies is particularly strong." "Okay I'm following you but have you really seen these other worlds?" "In a sense yes. It's a long story but one of my friends has the ability to traverse different forms of media. We've used that to check out other worlds." Davina summarized. "Holy cow that is amazing! Positively amazing! Astonishing! You can go anywhere! Do anything! You...you're unbelievable!" I stammered out. "What have you seen? WHere have you been? What did you do? Who did you meet?!" (I'm such a genius! I'm an absolute genius! I had a hunch that interviewing her would pay off and I hit the freaking GOLDMINE! A SPARKLING DIAMOND FILLED GOLDMINE! THIS IS THE ICING ON THE CAKE! THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE! I CAN ASK HER ANYTHING! I CAN LEARN ANYTHING! I CAN LEARN ABOUT ANYONE! I CAN!) A realization hit her like a lightning bolt. "A-actually, Davina, with this media traversal power...could you kinda sorta time travel? As in would it be possible to travel into a news broadcast or an interview with someone and meet them?" "Hmmm? Why yes. Obviously you would only be traveling into another world by entering that form of media in that world's timeline so you can't change your own timeline. Even if you could, going back in time to change something simply causes the travelers to experience an altered timeline going forward from that change. The original timeline also still exists and progresses normally, at the moment they left." Davina explained. "In essence, you'd only be going back into the media world's timeline in an alternate dimension. I hope that makes sense. But yes you can go into an interview." "I see, I see." I considered this before continuing. "Tell me then. Have you ever gone back to interview...Serenity? If so, then, what was she like in person? What did she have to say about her fellow Capes and the Bad Guys?" Davina decided not to bring Cody into the conversation. She deserved her privacy after all. "Oh? Serenity huh? Of course we've met with her! She was one of the coolest people ever! What would you like to know?" Penelope's mind raced as she began considering what questions to ask and how exactly she should word this. She settled on the simple approach. "A little bit of everything if you could. Everyone always says she's the coolest hero ever but I'm curious. I would like to get to know her from someone who actually really met her. About who she was. What she was like. What were her adventures like. What were her friends and allies like. Most of all...I must admit I am extremely curious about The Big Guy." Penelope leaned back in her seat and held her hand out with a smile. "Everybody always says he was The Devil Incarnate but what did Serenity think about him? They fought on and off for years right? Surely she must've had some juicy gossip about him." Davina ginned. "Well I've got gossip. I can give you the sparknotes of the interview but you understand I cannot divulge anything too personal." "Of course. Perfectly fair."

What would you like to know?" My mind raced as she began considering what questions to ask and how exactly I should word this. I settled on the simple approach. "A little bit of everything if you could. Everyone always says she's the coolest hero ever but I'm curious. I would like to get to know her from someone who actually really met her. About who she was. What she was like. What were her adventures like. What were her friends and allies like. Most of all...I must admit I am extremely curious about The Big Guy." I leaned back in my seat and held my hand out with a smile. Perfectly fair." "Serenity was...kindness. Purity. Passion. Earnestness. Hope. Courage and strength. She was the physical embodiment of justice in the world. That's what everyone always said about her and it was true. Of all of the heroes of ages past, she was the very model of justice and compassion. When you were around her, you could just feel that everything was going to be fine. She had an aura around her that just made you feel at ease. That everything was going to be fine when she was around. You've probably heard the same thing from anybody who's ever met her after all but it was the truth. Let me tell you as someone who has met her in person. It's the absolute truth. I'd never met anyone so kind before." Davina paused to reflect on that day before continuing. "Lets see. Lenora Barrineau. She was interviewing Lenora Barrineau from News Storm at the time. Haha. It was one of the few interviews she was able to stick around for. Normally she had to cut in and out of the interviews to go save someone. Serenity couldn't sit still for a second. Buuut the other heroes were handling business and it was a quiet day for once so she had some free time. A lot of it was the usual fair. Cracking some good natured jokes about fellow heroes like Physikḗ, Empyrean Man, Royal Sentinel, The Majestic Magician, Rosethron and Nightbolt. Telling a funny story about all the work that went into settling on a team name." "The Guardian Champions. I remember. They also considered The Apex Legion, The Justice Defenders, The Justice Marvels and The Infinity Battalion were also in the running." "You know your history. Coming up with the name was one thing but the real fun came from choosing one. There was a lot of debating before they settled on The Guardian Champions. A Super Team formed from Heroes around the world dedicated to defending it from all manners of threats. Until The Vanishing happened they were unbeatable. The Dark Lord Equilibrium's Conglomerate Of Crime, the autocratic superpower of the criminal world, were their only real opposition. The real power behind the Conglomerate was of course The Church Of Terror. A literal religion of evil ruled over by The Council Of The Cataclysm. Dismantling them was Serenity's lifelong goal." I couldn't help but laugh. "I know that story. I still can't believe Serenity's final battle with them was on the freaking Moon!" "The Lunar Battle. The battle so awesome it could be seen from Earth!" Davina declared. "That was one for the history books. She even surfed that giant bio-weapon from the Moon down to Earth!" "Kakothūmin (Malevolence, Κᾰκοθῡμῐ́Ᾱ.)" "She might've been the embodiment of kindness but that didn't mean that Serenity didn't have style." "Oh I know she did. She was amazing. Ah, getting back to the interview though?" "Right. So she was in the interview right, just generally answering questions about life, her hero work, her recent missions, her greatest battles, stuff like that. She answered everything in a good natured tone of voice. Well, almost everything. Naturally the subject of her nemesis eventually came up. Equilibrium. The moment the subject of that monster came up you could feel the mood in the room change. She kept a strong front up of course but I could feel it affecting her. She described him as The Emperor Of Darkness. An Archdevil. An Infernal Tyrant. Among other names. A gluttonous hope crusher who gorged himself on the powers of others while drinking in their despair. According to Serenity, he once told her that fear and despair just made the process feel so much better for him." "I see. Those were her words, huh?" "Yes but everything we've been able to dig up on him, the reports of people who encountered him, video footage...yeah that sounds about right. Satan on Earth." "But, what's with the name then? Equilibrium?" "That. Yeah, I asked her that myself. Originally, he represented the idea that as long as good and evil both exist in the world, there needs to be a "balance" between them. As long as evil exists in the world, there needs to be good as well, and the only way that an absolute good can exist is for an absolute evil to simultaneously exist. The ultimate evil to counter the absolute good that was Serenity in order to force the world to focus on him as a threat and unite together. That's what he wanted. Originally. According to Serenity at least. Problem with designating yourself as the ultimate evil of course is that he got lost in the darkness at some point and before anybody knew it he went mad with power and became exactly what he wanted to be." She paused before continuing. "Potentially it's a result of his absorption ability. Think about how many changes he must've done to his own DNA with all of the modifications it had to keep up with. Every time he ripped a power out of someone, he forcibly modified his own genome to be able to include them, damaging them in the process, resulting in mental and physical instability." "Wait, wait, wait. Physical instability? The guy who could throw hands with Serenity was physically unstable?" I asked in disbelief. "Power Stealing is a double edged sword, Penelope. If you make too many changes to your body too fast it results in a breakdown. The human body isn't built for many changes and the user will get physically ill if they overuse it. The effect is different for everyone depending on a variety of factors but its never pleasant. That's why Equilibrium had to steal the abilities of regenerators to compensate. His body wouldn't have been able to keep up with the demands he was putting on it and would've begun rapidly deteriorating or even melting down. Eventually, even that couldn't keep up with the damage that Serenity did to him in their final battle while still stabilizing him and his body gave in. His healing factor burned out, resulting in his final mutations and meltdown at the end." "Power Degeneration." I realized. "Imagine cancer, that slow insidious death that kills you from the inside, but which is also intrinsically you; it is a body eating itself, and unable to heal. Now imagine that cancer can grow faster whenever you do what you're best at: dancing, painting, coding software, kayaking. This is what happens with Power Degeneration. It's especially nasty with Power Thieves. Look it up. It's a rare power but anybody who gets too big for their britches with it will find themselves stuck in a healing vat or desperately hunting down regenerators to stabilize themselves." I went quiet and hung my head as I took all of this in. (Holy fucking shit this...this is some irony isn't it? There really is a price for everything. Oh Father, is that why you abandoned me? Did you not want me to get involved in this mad plan of yours? Did you not want me to experience that with you? Did you want to keep me out of the crossfire? Or...did you not want to see it happen to me? Is that it? Is that...all of that...going to happen me?) "Penelope, are you okay?" "Huh, oh, yeah. I'm fine. This is cool stuff. It's the best history lesson I've ever had! Please continue." I assured her with a smile.

It's the best history lesson I've ever had! Please continue." I assured her with a smile. "Okay. I'm sure you know this already but after a certain point, Equilibrium stopped sparing his victims and began draining their lifeforce along with their powers. That was the first sign of his mental degeneration. Here's the really weird part. Soon after this, he began experiencing purported auditory hallucinations of his horrified victims pleading for mercy. A phenomenon that was passed onto any one he transferred the powers to, much like organs during organ transplants, retain the consciousness of their donor, the stolen powers contained hints of the deceased victims, something he did not experience when simply stealing the powers. It is theorized this is due to absorbing their bioelectric fields." I nodded and rubbed my head. "Lets see...many organisms produce electromagnetic fields, and almost all bodily systems require electricity to function. Absorbing all of the bioelectricity in an organism would cause all of its organs to instantly shut down, killing the victim. If some memory of them remained with him, he could have been picking up data from the bioelectricity leached from the victim's brain which also allowed him to instinctively comprehend their ability on a similar level to the user." I theorized. "Correct. Couple this with his growing mental instability and you can see why he went off the deep end." "But...did he have anyone? Anybody who could help him? Family?" "Just minions really. There was a henchwoman, a right-hand woman named Darkstar, but she perished in the Tempeste City Battle. Dying upon her own sword no less. For my part I-" She droned on but it slowly grew faint and quiet. I could barely even hear it. Darkstar. Right-Hand Woman. Henchwoman. My mother. Killed on her own sword. Just like that. A blurb. My dad is Satan and my mother was his right hand woman. What the hell does that make me? I eventually managed to snap out of it to steer the conversation back to Serenity and we were able to conclude the interview. We got back on topic talking about Shepard for a while and really lifted my spirits right back up at least long enough to finish the interview. After it finished we shook hands and concluded it. I saved the transcript and mailed it to myself before exiting out. I logged out and packed up my things. I exited the computer room and walked across the library in a daze until I passed by a giant poster of Serenity on the wall. I felt my backpack slide down and caught it almost unconsciously as I stared up at 'Serenity The Savior's' smiling face. " If...if...if you..." I struggled to find the words. " If you...y-you knew about...me...would you have..." I lowered my head and rubbed my face covering my eyes with my hand. (Would you...have killed me too?) "She's amazing, isn't she?" The Librarian asked. "I can't even count how many times she saved the world. Damn shame that Devil took her from us." "Yeah...she's great." I replied and hurried away. "Hmmm? Penny? Penny is something wrong?" "Nothing! N-nothing's wrong. I promise! Just...just you know going to...bathroom. Thanks." I excused myself. I sobbed in front of the mirror while I splashed water on my face to try and calm back down. The water from the sink washing away the steady stream of tears pouring down my face but they couldn't stop the stuttering sounds croaking out of my throat. I squeezed my eyelids shut in the hopes that my tears would stop but it was useless. So I just let them go until I was able to force myself to smile and I eventually forced out a laugh that came out choked at first until I was able to slowly build it up to a croaking laugh and then on full on laughter that mixed with my tears. "Daughter of the Devil...that must be The Antichrist right? I mean, what else could I be?" I laughed. "My dad's the devil, my mom was his right hand woman, never knew my extended family but they're probably assholes too, their killer is fucking Jesus-Chan....if she had a kid, he's probably a damn celebrity worshipped by everyone, right? I guess we're probably supposed to fight each other....right? Carry on our family's legacies, start the war all over again right? Right? Riiiight?" "Listen to me Penny!
COME BAAAAACk!""Well fuck that. Fuck them. Fuck destiny. Fuck fate. Fuck all of it. Most of all fuck them." I dried my face with towels and crumpled up the papers and ripped them apart until I felt better and then I dropped all of it into the recyclotron. "Life's a movie. My movie. I'm writing my own goddamn ending." I walked back out of the bathroom with my bag in hand. The Librarian had returned to her desk but perked back up when I walked up to her. "Well hello, Penelope! Are you feeling better?" "Much. Just, one of those days, and I really had to use the can and....yeah. One of those days." I spotted a tape dispenser. "Can I borrow this?" "Sure. What for?" "Oh I just need to take care of something. Real quick. Just for a minute." "Why sure!" I smiled. "Thank you." I accepted the tape dispenser and walked across the library to a table where I took my binder out of my bag, took out a piece of paper and jotted a very powerful but simple message on it before packing back up and grabbing some tape, walking across the library and taping the paper to the wall next to the poster and returned the tape to the librarian. "Thank you!" I walked back out of the library humming to myself. The Librarian walked across the library to look at the paper that Penny had taped to the wall and read the message.
"Huh." She put her hands on her hips. "She's not wrong but where did this come from?"
